State Representative Tex Fischer and Majority Whip Nick Santucci have put forward a new legislative proposal in Ohio aimed at offering a state income tax deduction for overtime wages. The proposal comes in response to the economic challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw Ohio's unemployment rate surge above 16% in 2020.

Although the state has made strides in reducing unemployment since then, there remains an ongoing need to address workforce demands. "The strength of our economy depends on the people who put in the hours to fill critical needs in our workforce," said Santucci. He emphasized that the proposed legislation seeks to reward individuals for their contributions and encourage continued hard work.

At this stage, the bill has not been assigned to a committee for further consideration.
