State Representative Nick Santucci's legislation aimed at enhancing emergency medical services (EMS) training has been signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine. This new law establishes a procedure for proposing additional EMS training or continuing education topics to the State Board of Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services. Once approved by the board, these topics will become part of the mandatory educational curriculum for EMS personnel.

Santucci expressed his satisfaction with the bill's passage: “I’m grateful to see this bill get signed by the Governor,” he stated. He emphasized the significance of this legislation in equipping emergency personnel with vital knowledge that can be shared within the emergency medical community. "This is an important piece of legislation that can better equip our emergency personnel to save lives," Santucci added. He also acknowledged his support for EMS professionals and their contributions to Ohio communities.

Previously, only requirements established under a physician specializing in emergency medicine were permitted for EMS training and continued education.

In addition to this initiative, another piece of legislation from Santucci has been enacted into law. House Bill 81 includes an amendment from Santucci’s House Bill 286, which designates the Niles-Vienna Road bridge over State Route 11 as the “Vienna Township Veterans Bridge.” This act honors veterans from Vienna Township in Trumbull County.

Both legislative measures will take effect 90 days following their signing by Governor DeWine.
