State Representative Nick Santucci’s (R-Howland Twp.) legislation to exempt the surviving spouses of uniformed service members killed in the line of duty from property taxes passed the Ohio House.

House Bill 378, or the Gold Star Widow’s Bill, will expand a property tax exemption to Gold Star widows or widowers, someone that has lost their spouse while in the line of duty.

“This common-sense legislation is a small gesture of appreciation for the sacrifice these heroes make for our country,” Santucci said. “No military family should have to worry about losing their home in the aftermath of losing a loved one.”

This exemption will be available until a surviving spouse dies, remarries or cohabitates with another unrelated person.
