State Representative Nick Santucci (R-Howland Twp.) has announced that more than $3.3 million in state funding will be allocated to the Trumbull County Land Reutilization Corporation and the historic Warren YMCA for the redevelopment and preservation of five properties in Trumbull County.

The funding comes from the state’s Brownfield Remediation Program and Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program.

Projects include:

- $1.14 million to remediate a former steel mill site, involving cleanup and removal of environmental waste in preparation for future development.

- $905,748 for the cleanup of the former Peerless Winsmith Factory, which includes removing deteriorated structures and industrial waste. This project will facilitate the expansion of a veteran-owned recycling center, creating 30 new jobs.

- $165,000 for remediation of the former KODU property, historically used as a settling pond and for agricultural purposes. The site will undergo extensive remediation to prepare for a new community park.

- $123,750 for remediation of the former Van Huffel Tube Company site, currently operated by Trumbull Industries as a warehouse and manufacturing site. The property will be assessed for environmental concerns before expanding operations to create 10 new jobs.

Additionally, the former Warren YMCA building will receive $2 million in Historic Preservation Tax Credits to rehabilitate its 68-room dormitory into 42 residential units and restore its gym and basketball court as resident amenities.

These projects are part of the state’s $174 million investment through the Brownfield Remediation Program and Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program aimed at fostering economic growth by redeveloping abandoned properties across Ohio.
