State Rep. Mike Loychik | The Ohio House of Representatives
State Rep. Mike Loychik (R-Bazetta) has urged the Veterans Administration to revise its smoking cessation guidance to provide better education on the risks associated with various tobacco products for service members and their families.
“The military has an established culture of tobacco use, including primarily cigarettes and smokeless tobacco,” stated Loychik. “The stresses and anxiety of military life, trauma, readjustment, and other pressures lead active-duty military and veterans to smoke more than the average American.”
Loychik further emphasized, “Not only is smoking incredibly dangerous and incredibly addictive, but it is also notoriously hard for many people to quit. I believe that it is important that we show our veterans there are healthier, less harmful alternatives to smoking, and I hope we can save many lives in the process.”
