State Representative Mike Loychik (R-Bazetta) issued a statement today in recognition of Purple Heart Day, observed annually on August 7.

“Today, August 7, we honor the men and women of our armed forces who have been killed or wounded in action by observing National Purple Heart Day," said Loychik.

The Purple Heart Medal traces its origins back to 1782 and received its modern-day look and name in 1932 under Army General Douglas MacArthur. It is estimated that there are 1.8 million recipients of this award.

“As Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and a veteran myself, I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to all Purple Heart recipients, both in Ohio and nationwide,” Loychik added.
