Mayor Robin Oda and Park Department Superintendent Jeremy Drake are pleased to share that the City of Troy has received a $25,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for urban canopy restoration. The grant, matched with City funds, is intended to restore trees along City streets and parks where damage from invasive insects and weather events have occurred.

The funds will be used to plant 60 trees in the Southwest Historic District. As a part of the grant, the Park Department will water and maintain the trees during the initial establishment period after planting.

“The primary goal of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Canopy Restoration Grant is to restore the urban forest canopy throughout Ohio.  The urban forest canopy in the Southwest Historic District has been substantially impacted by two tornados within the last two-years resulting in the loss of more than 150 mature trees.  With the help of this grant funding, we are pleased to offer free curb lawn trees to residents of the district with the ultimate goal of restoring the tree canopy lost to the storms,” said Park Superintendent Jeremy Drake.

If you are a resident of the Historic District and would like a curb lawn tree, please contact the Park Department at 937-335-4612. These trees will be planted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
