All members of the media and the public are welcome to join Mayor Doug Franklin for the start of the demolition process of the old St Joseph's Hospital on the City's West side.
The asbestos mitigation phase at the site has been completed and the mayor will personally begin the process of removing an eyesore that has plagued city residents for years.
Mayor Franklin said it's always been a top priority of his administration to eliminate the 275,000 sq. ft. blighted structure and he's looking forward to taking the first 'swing' to bring the building down.
"It's not just the significantly negative impact the site has had on property values in this neighborhood, as well as the city as a whole," said Franklin, ''but this has been Warren's most dangerous public health hazard for two decades".
The asbestos remediation and demolition project is being funded through grants from the State of Ohio. Representatives from the Ohio Department of Development and the US EPA will be present.
